Stadium High Volleyball Tryout and Fall Training Schedule
This season we will be doing tryouts and our fall training program different than in years past. We believe this program will allow for better training in the short period of time before we start playing matches.
Total training days before our first match.
-
- mandatory training days 10
- optional training days 2
Please review the calendar below for an explanation.
Training Groups
Players have been put into groups. We will use these groups for tryouts and for various training times. Please make sure you know which group your in and write out your own schedule to make sure your at the gym at the right times. It is possible and probable for players to be moved from one group or the other depending on their abilities and how you progress during the early stages of training. The reason for the groups is to allow for proper evaluation and training. The groups have been put together from prior experience and from your play this summer. I know there are some that haven’t been able to make it to the summer leagues or skill workouts. Those players will be placed in groups by their age (School year… ie under classman vs upper classman). If you feel your not in the right group for your ability and experience feel free to talk to the coaching staff about this.
Once official teams have been selected there will be times when we will still use these groups for various training times. Lastly please only show up for your group times, you can come and observe the other groups if you want. You are more than welcome.
Its very possible you might not be in a group. This is only because I don’t have you on our active roster. Please email me if you don’t see your name and I will add you to a list.

Training Schedule
All paper work must be turned in to the coaching staff before you can participate.
Make sure to check the website daily during fall training days to see if the schedule has been changed. Make sure to do this before coming to the gym. We will do our best to keep this schedule but things to do change and we want you to be aware of these changes.
The times listed below are the times you must be ready to start practice. This means dressed and stretched out and ready to hit the floor. This season each player will be able to have 1 unexcused absence for being late to a practice. The 2nd one will cause you to have to watch practice and not participate. If you know your going to be late you must notify the coach via email or phone. This means you personally and not asking another a player to do it for you. If you have another player do it for you this would count as your 1 unexcused tardy.

Our summer program is coming to an end tomorrow, Thursday July 31st. By WIAA rules we can’t practice again until the start of our fall season which is August 25th.
3 things that must be done before you can participate this fall. There can be NO EXCEPTIONS!
1) Valid physical from your physician
2) ASB card for the 2008/2009 school year
3) AD Catalinich must do a grade check and validate all 3 of these things.
Once you have all this done and signed off by AD Catalinich and only then can you participate in the fall drills. Every year I have been here there seems to always be that one or two of you that wait to long to get your physical taken and then “its please coach I have it scheduled for tomorrow…” however it is a district rule that can’t be broken. If these things aren’t done by the time we start you can’t be in the gym even to watch. It sound harsh but it’s the rules and we will follow them. My experience especially with the physicals is everyone waits until right before school and by then most primary care givers are booked up. So please schedule them early.
Same with getting everything checkout and signed off by the AD office, if you don’t want to wait in a long line I suggest getting in there the first part of the week before tryouts and not wait until 30 minutes before tryouts begin.
Aug 1st – Aug 24th. This a time for you to continue to work on getting into the best shape possible. Tryouts are not designed to get you into shape, it’s your responsibility to come to tryouts in good physical condition… 1) to prevent injuries and 2) so you can perform your best. The last thing you want is to fail to make the team you have set your goal for and end up not making it because you’re too sore or worse getting injured due to not being in shape.
Other things to remember…
1) www.stadiumvolleyball.com You can find the latest calendar, any last minute changes to practice times…etc. Note this is our primary way of communicating with the whole roster. So please check it frequently!!!
2) You must have 10 official practices before you can participate in a match. Even though you might have two practices in a day it only counts as one practice. By WIAA rules, you can only count one practice per day. We barely have enough days before our first match so missing a practice could make you ineligible to play.
3) Bring lots of water and healthy snacks to tryouts. Also come to tryouts hydrated. Meaning the 24 hours prior you should be drinking extra fluids to get you properly hydrated. Being thirsty or not being thirsty has little to do with being hydrated… Drink Water!!!
4) You must have proper athletic shoes, proper socks (note if I can’t see them they are not proper!), and knee pads. We do have a dress code meaning no tank tops. Wear a t-shirt. Your choice on shorts or spandex.
5) No metal in your hair! We are not allowed to have metal such as bobbi pins or clips during matches so we need to learn to play without using them. If I see them you will not be able to practice and this includes the Varsity team too!!! … so make sure to stock up on elastic head bands when your doing your school shopping.
6) There will be no cell phone use during practice. They must remain in your bags even during water breaks. Note those caught using cell phones without permission will be excused from practice for the day.
7) Do not invite your boyfriends or any other male friends to practice they will be asked to leave. This includes the hallway outside the gym. You’re there to participate in volleyball only.
8) If you’re looking for ways to play some volleyball during this period please consider the volleyball camps put on at UPS. Coach Mark Massey is a great teacher of the game and it is a solid way to get some great practice in before tryouts. Here is the website address for more information http://www.ups.edu/x17411.xml
We are excited to get the season going. We have a great group of returning players and from what I have seen from our incoming freshman class we can’t help but be excited about Stadium Volleyball!!
See you all August 25th!!! Remember to check the website for additional information and for a detailed tryout schedule. Be patient we will get it up there soon!

Summer League each Wednesday night at Fife High School be there by 5:45 unless our first match starts at 7 and if this is the case be there by 6:30. Note that by the first of next week we will be assigning players to alternate weeks because of the large numbers of players. This will insure everyone gets quality time to play when it’s their week.
Skill Workouts will be every Thursday at SHS from 6pm until 7:30
Here is a list of players that should be attending the Thursday skill workouts and play in the JV summer league. If you can’t you should contact the coaches list.
There are names on both lists, it would be a good idea to be at both workouts. The training is different and would be beneficial to attend both if your schedules allow it.

Tuesday 17th I would like all returning varsity and JV players to attend a skill work out from 4 pm until 5:30 pm.
If you weren’t on the varsity or JV… I will schedule a workout for you later this week or early next week.
Also we are playing summer league Varsity on Mondays and JV on Wednesdays. If you haven’t been playing and I haven’t been told your schedule this would not be a good thing. Please let me know asap your summer availability.
at 6 pm there will be a Freshman orientation for incoming freshman. Please if you know of other freshman students looking to play volleyball have them come to the meeting. I and the coaching staff will be introducing ourselves to you and the players will go through some drills and scrimmage.
Varsity captains and returning senior players I would like you to stay after for a freshman orientation that starts at 6pm… you can leave a little early from the skill workout so you can go grab a quick snack in between the two sessions tomorrow.
Check the website for updates… you should be checking it daily like most of you do with your myspace accounts J. www.stadiumvolleyball.com
Remember, I do expect to hear from all returning players on their intentions for the summer and this fall. If I do not hear from you I will assume you are not coming back this fall.
I hope to see all of you soon
